After the Birth
...
1. Room In. Mother and baby should room in together.
Don't let the hospital give baby formula or sugar water if you can help
it! Don't be afraid that your baby is not getting enough to eat. Your
colostrum is enough food for your baby until your milk comes in ...
plus, you'll both be getting good practice. Nurse as often as possible!
2. No Artificial Nipples.
Avoid nipple confusion ... in other words, baby should only have YOU.
Avoid bottles, pacifiers, etc. as much as possible. Rubber or synthetic
nipples offered to baby on a regular basis can cause a loss of interest
in nursing/decrease in milk supply.
3. Formula Samples
are not Gifts! The only purpose of these "gifts"
is to get you to use formula ... leave them at the hospital, or put
them away when you get home, for use in case of emergency.
